Reflections at the Grand Palace

How/Why I Did It:

I took this photograph on our recent holiday and I loved the reflections of the couple, both on the golden wall and also on the pavement. As there were lots of people around at the time, the shot had to be taken very quickly. So I had to take it with the best arrangement of the people in the short time, but I liked the expression an the man's face and the fact they were passing over a camera!

Paula Davies For a grab shot you have done well and caught the moment and the body language between the couple.  If the man had also had his umbrella up that would have been the icing on the cake.  The reflections on the golden wall are great but it is the shadows which really catch my eye.

I like this a lot. Everything seems to have come together at the right moment. The couple, their shadows and reflections on the wall make a pleasing triangular composition, their umbrellas (hers open and his closed), and the interaction between them with their camera. Only one very minor gripe and that is that I would have liked to have seen a bit more space to the right but it may be that there were more people there and that would have ruined it.
Simon Allen I think this is a very good image.. you have caught a nice dynamic interaction between the two subjects. The shadows are very striking, and fill the foreground space well - I think it is the shadows rather than the rather muted reflections that are the strength of the shot. You have also got enough depth of focus to show up the good texture in the palace walls. Perhaps because the reflections are rather muted, I feel there is a slight imbalance in the picture, with the girl looking out of the frame - a little more space on the right might have helped this.
