Honesty Flowers

How/Why I Did It:

I used a wide aperture to give me as much depth of field as possible to blur the background.  I then made a duplicate layer.  Sharpened the bottom layer and then used a very large Gaussian Blur on the top layer, changing the blend mode of the layer to Multiply.  Added some curves to lighten the effect of the Multiply blend mode.  Using a layer mask on the blurred layer which was filled with black I painted with white to bring back some of the sharpness from the layer below.

I think this picture works very well and I really liked the various degrees of the blurring effects you used in the background, which really emphasise the foreground flowers very nicely. Purple is one of my favourite colours and the different shades here work well with the greens and make it a very pleasing picture to look at.
John Davies I prefer this to your previous floral outing and like the contrast between the sharp petals in the foreground and the blurred background. I also like the way that the main sharp flower heads are arranged in a triangle. However it is far too dark for me. I took it into Photoshop Levels and dragged the central slider to the left by 2 points, resulting in a much more pleasing picture.

Very nice! The bright purple works well against the dark background,  and I like the two crisp flowers with the remaining ones 'fading' into the background. I think I would have cropped the empty space out of the top of the frame
